Privacy policy
prepfrancais helps you prepare for the TEF and TCF Canada exams. To do that it stores what you write and say, because reviewing your own mistakes is the whole point of the product. This page says exactly what is kept, why, and how to get rid of it.

What we collect
Your name and email address, set when you register. A password, stored only as a bcrypt hash — nobody at prepfrancais can read it. The French you submit for correction: essays, pasted text, and the transcripts of your spoken answers. The corrections themselves, including every error found and the CEFR level awarded. Your practice history: streaks, XP, badges, review results and the timezone used to bucket them.
Audio recordings
Your spoken answers are recorded, in every speaking task. Only your own voice is recorded: the recording pauses while the AI examiner is speaking. The recording is sent to a transcription provider to turn it into text, and it is kept with your result so you can replay your own voice beside each correction. Only you can play it back, and our team only when handling your account. To have your recordings deleted, write to the address below.
Who else sees it
Your text or transcript is sent to the AI provider that grades it — currently one of Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Groq or DeepSeek, and one of OpenAI, Google, Groq or AssemblyAI for transcription. They process it to produce the correction. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
How long it is kept
For as long as your account exists, because your mistake history is what the review games are built from. Delete your account and the submissions, mistakes and review sessions attached to it go with it.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of everything held about you, ask for corrections, or ask for the account and its contents to be deleted. Write to the address below and we will act on it within 30 days. If you are in Quebec, Law 25 gives you these rights explicitly; elsewhere in Canada, PIPEDA does.
Cookies
Two httpOnly cookies keep you signed in, plus one ordinary cookie that only records that a session exists so the app can skip a pointless request when you are signed out. Your language choice is kept in local storage. There is no advertising or cross-site tracking. Google Analytics cookies are set only if you allow them, and you can change that choice at any time through the Cookies link at the bottom of every page.
Activity notifications
When you finish a test or buy a plan, other visitors may see a short notification such as "Priya S. just finished a writing test". It shows only your first name and the first letter of your last name, never your email, score or answers. You can turn this off at any time.
